BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota Information Technology congratulates Bismarck High School on taking first place at the 2025 North Dakota High School State Cybersecurity Tournament. The two-day event held at Bismarck State College welcomed nineteen teams representing thirteen high schools located across the state.

The multi-round style competition is based on several concepts including physical and virtual addressing, packet encapsulation, network and endpoint security technologies, security principles, and more. Each team consists of up to five students plus a coach or advisor. Teams must complete challenges to score points and advance in ranking. 

“It’s thrilling to witness students apply their cybersecurity skills in such a high-pressure, real-world setting,” said Jason Mattheis, professional learning and outreach manager, NDIT-EduTech. “Their passion for cybersecurity not only demonstrates the depth of talent in our schools but also fuels optimism for the future of North Dakota’s digital landscape.”

Red River High School placed second, with Legacy High School in third place. Participating High schools in the tournament: Barnes County North, Beach High School, Bismarck High School, Burke Central, Century High School, Drake Anamoose High School, Fairmount Public School, Legacy High School, Red River High School, Simle Middle School, Tioga High School, Williston High School, Williston Trinity Christian School.

Tournament planning partners include NDIT-EduTech, ND Career and Technical Education, ND Department of Public Instruction, ND Department of Emergency Services, ND Department of Health and Human Services, and Palo Alto Networks.
