NDIT-EduTech and Gateway to Science are excited to bring the Esri 2021 ArcGIS Online Competition to schools in ND! The competition is open to any students in grades 4-12 (competing as individuals or a team of two), with middle school (gr. 4-8) and high school (gr. 9-12) divisions. Esri is providing a grant of $100 for each of the top five schools from each division and the top entry in each division will also be submitted to Esri for entry into the national competition. What is GIS? GIS stands for Geographic Information System, which is just a way to store and manipulate geographical information (maps) on a computer.
Who is Esri? Esri is a leader in the field of GIS. They are the sponsor of the national competition and provide ArcGIS software. You can read more about them here.
I’m interested in providing this opportunity to my students, but I don’t know anything about GIS. Where do I start? If you want to learn more about GIS, here is a getting started guide from Esri.
My school doesn’t have any ArcGIS software. What do I do? Esri offers no cost software for instructional use, go here to learn more about getting the software.
